I was super excited to be able to cover this show. I’ve heard of ZOSO for a few years and have had several people tell me how great they are. Realizing that I will never get to see the real Led Zeppelin live, I have to take the opportunities to see the best of the bands that are playing Zeppelin songs. I realized as I was headed to the Bourbon Theater that this will be my 3^rd Led Zeppelin tribute band that I’ve had the opportunity to see. Get The Led Out and Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin experience being the other two. And those both were great bands to see, so now it was my chance to finally catch up with Zoso.

Side, note, I found out the night of the show that the lead singer, Matt Jernigan, is not currently touring with the group. Matt is taking some time off and in the mean time is being replaced by Jon Cover. Jon called himself the 2^nd string quarterback and the understudy. Well…I can’t speak to how good Matt Jernigan is, having never heard him sing, but I would have to say that Jon was more than just a fill in understudy. He did an amazing job on vocals. He seemed to have a genuine passion for these songs. Which, for me, not getting to see the original group, these songs deserved to be heard live. And it’s bands like Zoso that make it possible for us to hear some classic rock and roll live.

The set list of ZOSO was a great mix of classic hits and a few deep cuts. Opening with Good Times Bad Times that set the mood for the rest of the night. Highlights for me were Trampled Under Foot, Bron-Y-Aur-Stomp, Stairway to Heaven, and drummer Bevan Davies doing Moby Dick. It was a great night of music with a great crowd. I was glad that I made the effort to be there. While some people see tribute bands as a novelty, I see it different. These guys have passion and talent to carry on the music that could easily be forgotten. Everyone will remember the Zeppelin hit, but these guys go deeper and give you a new appreciation of this era.
